Abstract

Atriplex sagittata BORKH. represents an archaeophytic species in Czechoslovakia. Its distribution has shown a progressive trend during several last decades. It may be explained by (1) an increase of the number and total area of suitable habitats, and (2) heterocarpy. The latter factor is linked with differences in (a) depth of dormancy, (b) way of spreading, and (c) germination time of individual diaspore types. Different time of dissemination prevents sprouting of the achenes of C-type in the autumn and it is responsible for breaking of dormancy in A-type. It makes thus possible the establishment of the soil seed bank consisting predominantly of the B-type.
